출국을 앞둔 강한은 어린 시절 아버지와 함께 맛본 음식을 다시 만나기 위해 레스토랑 파밀리아를 찾는다. 그러나 한때 손님들로 북적이던 식당에는 적막만 감돌았고, 음식의 맛과 상태도 강한의 기억과는 전혀 달랐다. 아버지와의 소중한 추억이 훼손됐다고 느낀 강한은 주방까지 들어가 "파밀리아의 이름을 더럽혔다"고 쏘아붙인다.
그 한마디는 식당을 홀로 지키던 최송이(홍화연)에게 깊은 상처로 남는다. 사정을 전혀 모른 채 던진 비난에 최송이는 결국 눈물을 터뜨린다. 분노와 오해, 눈물로 얼룩진 두 사람의 첫 만남은 이후 관계가 어떻게 달라질지를 예고하는 장면으로 마무리된다.
파밀리아가 폐업 위기에 몰린 사연
최송이가 이토록 예민하게 반응한 데에는 사연이 있다. 그의 아버지이자 파밀리아의 오너 셰프였던 최승효(장현성)는 평연그룹에 반기를 들었다는 이유로 누명을 쓴 채 스스로 목숨을 끊었다. 중심을 잃은 식당은 폐업 위기에 몰렸지만, 최송이는 아버지가 남긴 레스토랑을 지키기 위해 힘겹게 버텨왔다.

After carefully preparing a memorial feast and fulfilling that wish, he was ready to leave for the United States again.
Before departing, Kang Han visited the restaurant Familia to taste the food he once enjoyed with his father as a child. But the once-bustling restaurant was now silent, and the taste and condition of the food were nothing like his memories. Feeling that precious memories of his father had been ruined, he stormed into the kitchen and snapped that Familia had "soiled its own name."
That remark deeply hurt Choi Song-yi (Hong Hwa-yeon), who had been guarding the restaurant alone. Unaware of her circumstances, his criticism brought her to tears. Their first meeting, stained with anger, misunderstanding, and tears, foreshadows how their relationship might change.
Why Familia Faces Closure
Choi Song-yi's sensitivity has a reason. Her father, Familia's owner-chef Choi Seung-hyo (Jang Hyun-sung), took his own life after being falsely accused for standing up to the Pyeongyeon Group. The restaurant lost its center and fell toward closure, but Choi Song-yi has struggled to keep her father's restaurant alive.
Episode 1 also featured an unexpected accident: a fire extinguisher mounted on the kitchen ceiling suddenly exploded while the two argued, throwing the restaurant into chaos. Whether the two can move past this rocky start, and whether Familia can recover, will be key points to watch.
Pyeongyeon Group's Cooking Survival Show "The Table: K Chef 2026"
Episode 1 also showed the Pyeongyeon Group launching a large-scale cooking survival show. With its image damaged by Choi Seung-hyo's death, the group hopes to turn public opinion around. "The Table: K Chef 2026," which aims to find the best Korean chef, will feature dazzling dishes and dramatic stories from Korean chefs around the world.

It is a somewhat modest start, with SBS's "Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia" and tvN's "100 Days of Lies" already riding strong momentum. Still, Kang Han's narration explaining the chef's craft and the colorful cooking scenes gave the show its own flavor. How quickly the many characters and stories introduced in episode 1 come together will likely decide its success.
"Final Table" runs for 12 episodes and streams on Disney+. It airs every Saturday and Sunday night, with episode 2 broadcasting tonight (October 25) at 10:30 p.m. Whether Ahn Hyo-seop's cooking performance and his chemistry with Hong Hwa-yeon can lift the ratings remains to be seen.
